Waikeria Prison
The Department of Corrections enforces the sentences and orders of the criminal courts and parole board. Corrections improves public safety by ensuring sentence compliance and works to reduce re-offending by providing offenders with rehabilitation programmes, education and job training.
The objective of The Department of Corrections is to help keep our community safe and to achieve this we have a goal of reducing re-offending by 25% by 2017.
Volunteer at Waikeria Prison to lead beginner NZSL sessions for a small group of men. Help participants learn signs, basic phrases, and practical communication skills to share with their families. Full orientation and guidance are provided.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our volunteer team at Waikeria and work along side our more mature residents, running strong, safe and stable sessions to keep the team active and support their overall wellbeing.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual to inspire and teach Tane the basics of raranga (flax weaving) in a small, supportive group setting.
