Every hour you volunteer in our shop helps Hospice Waikato continue providing free specialist palliative care to people and their whānau. Your time supports the shop and the team, keeping things running smoothly so the organisation can focus on caring for those who need it most.

At our Lake Road site, we have a variety of volunteer roles and warmly welcome people with different skills, interests, and availability. You’ll join a friendly, supportive team where your contribution is valued, whether you’re preparing linen, sorting donations, or helping in the shop on busy days.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:
Linen Team Volunteers

  • Wash, sort, iron, and prepare linen for the shop floor
  • Initial training on Monday or Wednesday, ongoing shifts ideally on Fridays (~3 hours)
  • Work as part of a dedicated linen team of around 3 people within the wider store team

Donations Volunteers (Warehouse) – Monday Mornings

  • Assist with unloading and loading donated goods
  • Physically active role, teamwork required

Sunday Volunteers – All Areas

  • Support retail and operational areas across the site
  • Ideal for those available on weekends

Requirements:
  • Reliable and committed, enjoying being part of a friendly team
  • Friendly and approachable, able to interact positively with the public, volunteers, and staff
  • Physically able, as some roles involve light lifting, bending, or moving stock
  • Comfortable working as part of a team and helping where needed
  • Flexible and willing to learn, happy to take on new tasks and adapt as required
  • Community-minded, understanding and valuing the role Hospice plays in supporting people and their whānau
  • An interest in retail or community work is a bonus

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • From 2 to 4 hours per week
  • Flexible options depending on the role
