Huntly Suicide Awareness March: Food & Drink Volunteer Role

Huntly

Help Serve Soup – Suicide Awareness March, Huntly
This role is all about quietly supporting those taking part in Huntly’s Suicide Awareness March. You’ll be helping to heat and serve free soup and drinks to the walkers — a small, comforting gesture on a day that holds a lot of emotion for many.

This is a sensitive and solemn occasion, so we’re looking for 2–3 volunteers who are kind, calm, and friendly. If you'd like to bring friends or whānau along to help, even better — the more support, the stronger the atmosphere of care.

While our organisation joins the march, you’ll hold the space at the soup station, serving refreshments and keeping an eye on the generator to make sure everything runs smoothly. We’ll show you what to do on the day — you won’t be alone.

  • Location: Huntly (exact location will be confirmed when you sign up)
  • Date: Sunday 22nd June
  • Time: 4hrs (Exact timing to be announced once confirmation has been received from the organizers.)
  • What to bring/wear: Dress warmly, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring a calm, caring attitude. High Viz will be provided on the day.
  • Accessibility: This role involves standing and light tasks. Let us know if you have any accessibility needs — we’ll do our best to support you.
Requirements:
  • Willing to wear our high-visibility vest
  • Bring your smile, kindness, and respect for the occasion
  • No previous experience needed — full guidance provided
  • Able to stand for periods and manage light tasks such as heating and serving soup
  • Comfortable keeping an eye on the generator to ensure it runs smoothly
  • Able to work calmly and compassionately in a sensitive environment
  • Willing to work as part of a small team and support others during the event
Time commitment:

8am - 1pm

  • Includes setting up the gazebo before the march
  • Looking after resources during the march and packing down afterward
