Volunteer Chef – Hunty Community House Café
Cook with purpose. Nourish your community.

We’re looking for 2 volunteer chefs who enjoy linework and A la Carte cooking to support the daily operation of our not-for-profit café — where every plate served helps power positive change in Huntly.

Hunty Community House provides a wide range of free services including budgeting support, counselling, justice navigation, victim support, employment assistance, AOD peer support, and whānau-focused wellbeing programmes like Awhi Mai. The proceeds from our café directly support these vital initiatives, as well as our foodbank and community garden.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Preparing fresh, nutritious meals in a café-style setting
  • Using creativity and flexibility to cook with available ingredients
  • Supporting a positive, inclusive kitchen environment
  • Assisting with baking and basic food prep as needed
  • Helping with general kitchen cleaning and hygiene standards

What We’re Looking For:

  • Confidence with A la Carte cooking and linework
  • A team player who is flexible, reliable, and community-minded
  • Able to work with what’s on hand and make it delicious!
  • A strong sense of purpose and passion for giving back

  • Must have a clear head, steady hands, and a commitment to safe, sober work habits
  • Reliable, works well in a team, and has a great sense of humour
  • Committed to the role as a volunteer and ready to make a difference
Time commitment:

Available Shifts:
We can work with other volunteers to accommodate schedules.

Monday to Friday:

  • 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • 3:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Saturday and Sunday:

  • 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • 3:00 PM - 8:30 PM
