Volunteer Opportunity: Funding Guru Wanted! - Help Empower Young Creatives in the Waikato
Are you experienced in applying for grants and building strong relationships with funders? Do you have a passion for helping community organisations grow their impact? If so, Waikato Rocks Trust would love to hear from you.

We’re looking for a Volunteer Funding Guru to support us in securing the resources we need to keep creating vibrant, inclusive spaces for youth creativity across Hamilton and the wider Waikato.

Who We Are
Waikato Rocks Trust is a charitable organisation championing youth music, dance, and cultural celebration through free public events and community-led projects. Since 2010, we’ve supported over 100 young creatives each year through initiatives like our beloved Christmas at the Lake and the energetic Tunes of Waikato project.

We’ve got big dreams — and now we’re looking for the funding support to help make them real.

What You'll Be Doing
As our Volunteer Funding Guru, you’ll:

  • Identify relevant funding opportunities and grants
  • Support or lead the writing of funding applications
  • Help us build and maintain relationships with funders
  • Provide guidance on developing sustainable funding strategies
  • You don’t need to be local — we’re open to remote support, and happy to work around your availability.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a small, passionate team making a big difference
  • Use your skills to create real impact for young people and local communities
  • Help shape creative opportunities for the next generation of artists, performers, and changemakers

Keen to Get Involved?
We’d love to hear from you! Whether you’re a seasoned grant writer or someone with a talent for strategy and storytelling, your skills could help us grow our reach and impact.

Requirements:

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience with successful funding applications or grant writing
  • An understanding of community organisations and the non-profit sector
  • Great communication skills and a sharp eye for detail
  • A genuine belief in the power of music, creativity, and multicultural expression
Time commitment:
  • Each application usually takes about 3 hours to plan and 1–2 hours to complete and submit.
  • We’re flexible — one face-to-face meeting should be enough, with the rest done online and in your own time.
  • With good planning, it might take even less time than that.
