Join us as a Historical Cottage Cleaner and help maintain the charm of a 160-year-old cottage located at Morrinsville Museum. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring that the cottage remains in good condition while preserving its rich history for future generations.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Dusting and Cleaning: Clean and dust all surfaces, including furniture, floors, walls, and artifacts, ensuring every area, even hard-to-reach spots, is spotless without damage. Keep windows and mirrors streak-free.
  • Artifact Handling (with Guidance): Under the Curator’s supervision, clean and care for delicate artifacts, following guidelines and reporting any damage or wear.
  • Preservation and Care: Use safe cleaning products to protect historical materials, maintain an organized supply storage, and follow museum guidelines on temperature, humidity, and pest control.
Requirements:

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for History and Preservation: A genuine love for history and heritage preservation is essential to this role.
  • Experience and Attention to Detail: Whether you’ve cleaned before or not, we’re looking for someone with a keen eye for detail and the ability to handle delicate materials. Experience in a historical setting or with sensitive items is a plus.
  • Physical Ability: You’ll need to be comfortable bending, reaching, and lifting as part of your daily tasks.
  • Reliability and Communication: We value dependable team members who can communicate effectively and follow instructions well.
  • A Willingness to Learn: Don’t worry if you’re new to artifact handling – we’ll provide guidance and training to help you grow in this role.
Time commitment:
  • Opening Hours: The Museum is open 5 days a week from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Sundays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Flexible Project-Based Role: This volunteer position is project-based, and a plan will be arranged in consultation with the Volunteer Coordinator to suit both the museum and the volunteer.
