Health Shuttle Driver

Thames

Making over 65,000 trips per year, the Hato Hone St John Health Shuttle is a free community service that transports people to and from essential medical and health related appointments. The service is often used by older people, by people who are too unwell to drive a vehicle, and those who cannot access other transport options.

Driving a Hato Hone St John Shuttle vehicle, you will be responsible for ensuring clients safely reach their appointments on time. This volunteer role is highly customer focussed and whilst some clients may be physically able, others may need assistance. Therefore, in addition to having a sensitivity toward those who are unwell, being physically fit is also important in this role.

Requirements:

Held a full and clean NZ Drivers Licence for at least 12 months (vehicle may be a manual)
Have a clean police record
Ability to commit to one full day shift per week or fortnight
Have excellent communication and problem solving skills
Friendly, caring and compassionate, with a genuine interest in the well-being of others
An aptitude for diverse cultures
Be physically fit
Please note: all appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks including, but not limited to, references, police and driver checks, and medical clearance. For driving roles, you will be required to meet the St John medical standards.

In return, we will provide relevant training (including First Aid Level 1), a uniform, ongoing support, and Hato Hone St John membership (which gives free ambulance service for immediate family).

The best gift anyone can give is 'time'. Come join our team of volunteers where the time they give is highly valued in their communities.
