Expressions of Interest: Join the Brain Injury Waikato Board
The Brain Injury Waikato Board is seeking expressions of interest from individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of those impacted by brain injury.

Brain Injury Waikato is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization guided by its Board. We are affiliated with the Brain Injury Association (New Zealand) but operate independently. Our services cover the greater Waikato region, stretching from south of Manukau, across Thames/Coromandel, and down to Tongariro.

Our vision, “Working together to better lives impacted by brain injury” | “E mahi tahi ana ki ngā oranga pai ake e pāngia ana e te mate roro”, drives our purpose:

SUPPORT: Helping people with brain injuries and their whānau access services and live their best lives in the Waikato.
NAVIGATE: Providing advice and connections to ensure voices are heard and the right support services are accessed.
EDUCATE: Raising awareness about brain injuries and their impact within the wider community.

We are seeking individuals who bring diverse expertise and perspectives to complement our strengths in governance, financial and accounting management, and strategic leadership. Specifically, we are looking for:

  • Professionals with experience in the medical field, such as general practitioners or medical center managers.
  • Individuals who can share lived experiences, either living with a brain injury or supporting a loved one with one.
  • Experts in the legal field, particularly in health and disability law or employment law.

Please note: As our board members are volunteers, there may be a delay in responses, but we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Active Participation:

  • A commitment to engaging in board discussions and contributing to governance decisions.

Preferred Experience:

  • Legal expertise, particularly in ethics, health, or employment law.
  • Background in the medical field, such as general practice or healthcare management.
  • Personal lived experience with brain injury, either directly or as a supporter of someone affected.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Monthly Commitment: Availability to attend board meetings held on the 4th Tuesday of each month in the evening.
  • Flexible Support: Willingness to dedicate additional time as needed to support the organization's growth and initiatives.
