Drive with Purpose – School Holidays & Community Support - Hamilton

Hamilton

K’s with Kindness.
It might just be a lift to you — but to a child, it’s the whole day.
Shama is looking for friendly, reliable volunteer drivers to support our Children’s Holiday Programme and occasionally help with other community events. You’d be helping children get to and from activities during the school holidays usually just once or twice a week within Hamilton.

The routes are simple, the trips are short, and we’ll keep things well organised on our end. You just bring your full licence (held for 3+ years), your calm presence, and your willingness to lend a hand.

When You’ll Be Helping

  • Our next Children’s Holiday Programme runs from 29 September to 3 October — that’s our main focus right now.
  • We’ll need your help during that week for daily pick-ups and/or drop-offs, usually once or twice a day.
  • If you're open to it, we'd also love to have you available for occasional community events throughout the year
  • Nothing frequent, and we’ll always check with you first.

How You’ll Make a Difference

  • Provide short, local rides to children in our programme
  • Drive once or twice a day during the holiday week
  • Help kids take part in activities they’d otherwise miss out on
  • Let us handle the planning — we’ll tell you when and where

Why It Matters to Families

  • Our school holiday programmes mean the world to the children and families who attend.
  • They give kids a safe, joyful place to belong while school’s out and something to look forward to.
  • Your help behind the wheel makes those experiences possible.

Keen to Lend a Hand? Here’s What We’re Looking For

  • You have a full NZ driver’s licence, held for at least 3 years
  • You're confident communicating clearly in English
  • You’ve got a safe, insured vehicle
  • You’re calm, dependable, and enjoy helping others
  • You’re happy to meet people from all walks of life
  • You’re comfortable completing police vetting (we’ll guide you through it)
  • And most importantly — you’re someone who shows up when it matters
Requirements:
  • You speak fluent English and can communicate clearly and confidently
  • You hold a full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence — held for at least 3 years
  • You drive a vehicle that’s registered, insured, and has a current Warrant of Fitness (WOF)

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • You can spare 3–5 hours a month during school holidays
  • You’re able to commit for at least six months
  • You’ll be available during our upcoming holiday programme (29 Sept – 3 Oct)
  • You’re happy to help with the occasional community event when needed
  • Once you’re inducted, we’ll keep you posted about future holiday programmes
