Role: Volunteer driver to help people who have trouble getting to medical appointments.
What You’ll Do:

  • Pick people up from their homes and drive them to their appointments.
  • Take them safely back home after their appointment.
  • Make sure everyone gets to their appointment on time by coordinating schedules.
  • Help keep the shuttle or vehicle clean and tidy.

Where You’ll Go:

  • Most trips are to Waikato Hospital or specialist clinics around Hamilton, but you may also drive to local doctor’s appointments.

Support: You’ll have another volunteer with you as a passenger to help out during the drive.
What You Need:

  • A valid driver’s license for both manual and automatic vehicles (you’ll be driving a van or car).
  • The ability to chat with people—sometimes, you’ll be the only person they talk to all week.

Requirements:
  • Full, clean driving license with the ability to drive both manual and automatic vehicles.
  • Good time management and communication skills to ensure appointments run smoothly and everyone is kept informed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Physically fit to assist people in and out of the vehicle and handle regular driving.
  • Friendly, reliable, and patient with a flexible attitude to support others.
  • Must be fully vaccinated to volunteer in this role.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Commitment of 5-8 hours per week.
