Foster Care Opportunities with CARE (Taupō):
We are a passionate Taupō-based group dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals in need. We believe that every animal is precious, and we provide loving foster homes for animals who require temporary care before finding their permanent homes.

We are seeking foster homes for the following needs:

  • Healthy Kittens (6-9 weeks old): Care for small, healthy kittens until they are ready for adoption.
  • Special Needs Kittens: Kittens in need of extra care, such as those on antibiotics or recovering from malnutrition to improve their condition.
  • Senior Cats (8+ years old): Provide a home environment for older cats while we search for a permanent home.
  • Adult Cats: Foster adult cats for 1-2 weeks until space becomes available at the CARE Cattery.
  • Emergency Fostering: Immediate foster homes for cats or kittens that are at risk of euthanasia. Vets nationwide reach out to us for help, and we need "ready and waiting" foster homes to save lives.

What We Provide:

  • Bedding, food, crates, litter, trays, and all necessary veterinary care.
  • 24-hour support and advice for our foster families.

Requirements:

Foster Care Requirements and Support:

  • Love for Animals: This role is ideal for those with a genuine love for animals and a desire to help those in need.
  • Comfortable with Animals: You should be comfortable handling animals, especially young kittens, and be ready to spend a significant portion of your day at home.
  • Empathy and Compassion: We’re looking for fosters who are empathetic, compassionate, and dedicated to the well-being of animals.
  • Support Provided: You’ll receive all the necessary supplies, including food, litter, trays, and kitty beds, to care for the animals.
  • Home Visit: A CARE Animal Manager may visit your home to assess the space where the animal will be kept.
  • Flexibility: If you don’t meet all the requirements but still want to help, contact us to discuss how you may be able to assist.
  • No COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: Vaccination for COVID-19 is not a requirement for this role.
Time commitment:
  • Full-Time Commitment: This role requires a full-time commitment for the duration of your fostering period.
  • Flexible Hours: The role is "as and when required," offering flexibility for those with varying availability. It’s perfect for individuals with fluctuating schedules.
