Sidewalker - Hamilton

Hamilton

You will be working with children and adults with physical, intellectual, emotional or social challenges as they improve their physical abilities to increase their confidence and self-esteem and improve their communication and concentration skills.
Walking alongside our horses you may be helping to teach riding skills, educational skills, or assisting with balancing and supporting the riders as they complete activities in the arena or go out for farm rides.
Volunteers gain the pleasure of seeing the difference their help and support can make in our riders lives.
You will need to be physically fit as you will be on your feet, sometimes on uneven ground, for most of the shift.
You will also need a good command of English language.

PLEASE NOTE - this volunteering takes place a 20 minute walk from the nearest bus stop. We provide all initial and ongoing training required and may offer NZQA recognised Unit standards.

Requirements:
  • All training is provided at Equipotential. You must enjoy working with children and adults with disabilities, as well as working alongside our horses.

  • You must also have the ability to work as part of a team alongside our other volunteers and coaches and be reasonably fit and able.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • We operate Monday to Friday from 8.30 am till 1.30 pm during the school terms.
  • We prefer volunteers to do one full morning but if you can not commit to that you can do flexible hours.
