Te Awamutu Volunteer – Show a Person with Low Vision Around Town

Te Awamutu

Do you know the quiet streets, the river paths, or those little corners of Te Awamutu that feel like secrets only locals know?

We’re looking for someone to show a young man with low vision around his new town. A few walks, a few chats, sharing the spots you love, and helping him feel his way around.

It’s short, flexible, and all about exploring the town your way, no formal guide skills needed, just your local knowledge.

If you’d like to share a few favourite routes and stories of Te Awamutu, get in touch and help him find his feet in the community.

Requirements:
  • Comfortable walking for at least an hour per walk at a steady pace
  • Familiar with Te Awamutu and local walking routes
  • Comfortable walking and guiding someone with low vision
  • Friendly, patient, and approachable
  • Available for a few short walks at flexible times
  • Willing to share your knowledge of the town

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Flexible, short-term role
  • A few walks at times that suit you
  • Doesn’t need to be long-term
  • Could suit a university student home for the holidays or anyone with some free time

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
