Volunteer Structural/Civil Engineer - Event Pop Up Project

Home Based, Hamilton

At Here 2 Care Charitable Trust, we’re wanting to create a completely new kind of temporary event space — something safe, sustainable, and visually striking, and unlike anything New Zealand has hosted before. To help bring this idea to life, we’re looking for someone with an interest or background in structural or civil engineering.

What You’ll Do:

  • Help turn our concept into a safe and workable design
  • Assist with drawings, layout plans, and site design
  • Check that the structure will be stable, safe, and compliant
  • Work alongside our Project Director to problem-solve and develop ideas.

The ideal candidate for this role:

  • A student or early-career engineer wanting real, hands-on experience
  • Someone interested in temporary structures, events, scaffolding, or modular construction
  • Someone who enjoys creative thinking, practical problem-solving, and working on something unique for Aotearoa

This is being run by a charitable organisation and will contribute to fundraising efforts. At this stage, it is volunteer-based, but there may be opportunities for paid work in the future but happy to provide a reference upon completion of project.

Requirements:
  • Someone familiar with temporary structures, scaffolding systems, modular construction, or event setups
  • Confident with basic engineering principles and design thinking
  • Ability to draw a detailed site plan with accurate measurements for construction and health and safety
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to work collaboratively
  • Someone excited by a creative, unusual project.
Time commitment:
  • Flexible, about 2-5 hours per week
  • Total 20 hours at first

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
