The Hamilton Arts Festival Toi Ora ki Kirikiroa brings the magic of the arts to Hamilton Gardens, local theatres, and the central city. We’re looking for passionate volunteers to help audiences reduce their waste during the festival as Zero Waste Heroes!

Role Description:

  • Support audience waste reduction efforts at waste stations located in the Festival Hub and on the Rhododendron Lawn.
  • Guide attendees to sort their waste into the correct bins, educating them on proper waste disposal.
  • Set up waste stations at the start of shifts and tidy up the area before finishing each evening.
  • Protective gear provided for your safety.

Volunteer Perks:

  • Enjoy the chance to watch performances before or after your shift.
  • Join us for a special Welcome BBQ a few days before the festival to connect with the team.

Requirements:
  • Strong customer service skills and clear, friendly communication.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and a welcoming smile to enhance guest experiences.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended shifts and navigate the gardens comfortably.
  • Availability for at least two shifts during the festival.
  • Punctuality and reliability to ensure smooth event operations.

Time commitment:

Shift Details:

  • Evening shows: Typically run from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
  • Weekend shows: Run from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.
    • Volunteers are scheduled for specific shows and venues, working between 2–6 hours per shift.
  • Enjoy the chance to watch the show during your shift!

Volunteer Perks:

  • Refreshment breaks are provided as needed.
  • Evening volunteers will enjoy a complimentary supper.
  • Daytime volunteers receive a free ice cream.

Minimum Commitment:

  • Volunteers are asked to commit to at least two shifts over the 2025 Festival dates:
  • Fri, 20 Feb - Sat, 21 Feb
  • Sun, 22 Feb - Wed, 25 Feb
  • Thu, 26 Feb - Fri, 27 Feb
  • Sat, 28 Feb - Sun, 1 Mar
