Trees At The Meteor - 10th-19th December 2025
Since 2007, Trees at The Meteor has been a well-loved family event, bringing together the community for a week of Christmastime celebration that sees thousands of people come through our doors. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Event Team!

We have five fantastic volunteer roles you can apply for:

Ticketing Desk Volunteer:

  • Manning the ticketing desk
  • Greeting audiences as they arrive for the event
  • Processing entry koha via eftpos and cash
  • Collating data about entry numbers
  • Taking orders for t-shirt printing
  • Assisting with event capacities

Exhibition Volunteer:

  • Communicating with audiences about the Trees kaupapa and directing them through the space
  • Maintaining visual confirmation that the trees are being respected
  • Assisting if any Trees are damaged or impacted
  • Assisting with any H&S incidents for the public
  • Instructing audience in voting process if needed

Cafe Volunteer:

  • Taking orders and names for free coffee for audiences
  • Assisting with coffee making
  • Selling cold drinks, ice creams, etc
  • Cleaning up and maintaining cafe space
  • Clearing tables, dishes, rubbish as needed

Awkward Family Photos Volunteer:

  • Taking photos of groups in costumes
  • Helping people into costumes
  • Ensuring audiences respect the costumes loaned to us as well as any furniture/ props available
  • Managing a line of people and keeping it moving so people aren’t waiting too long

T-Shirt Printing Volunteer:

  • Taking orders for t-shirt printing
  • Printing on recycled tees
  • Delivering t-shirts to audiences in the café

All of our volunteers are responsible for providing manaakitanga and excellent customer service for guests attending Trees at The Meteor, as well as other general front of house tasks (such as cleaning and health and safety) throughout the event. By working as a volunteer, you will gain valuable customer service experience working on a busy community event.

If you're successful in joining our volunteer group, we will provide an induction to The Meteor and the Trees at The Meteor event as well as general ongoing support and training.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience with customer service/cash handling/taking photos/cafe work is advantageous.
  • Great communication skills and works well in a team.
  • A reasonable physical ability to complete various tasks.
  • Reliable and punctual with excellent time management skills.
  • Has an interest in the community and the creative arts.

Time commitment:
  • You must be available for a minimum of 2-3 volunteer shifts. (If you’re free for more, that’s great too!)
  • Each shift is approximately 3-4 hours.

The event runs from 10th through to 19th December.

  • Wednesday 10th – Friday 12th December, 11am-2pm
  • Saturday 13th, Tuesday 16th – Friday 19th December, 6:30pm-9pm
