Volunteer Opportunity: Predator Trap Maintenance – Cambridge
Aroha Cambridge is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help check and maintain predator traps around the Cambridge area.

This role is perfect for residents who enjoy regular walks and want to make a real difference in the local environment. By volunteering, you’ll be helping to protect native wildlife—birds, bats, lizards, and insects—and contribute to keeping Cambridge’s natural areas thriving.

No prior experience is needed – full training and all bait supplies are provided.

Requirements:
  • A moderate level of fitness to enjoy walking between trap sites.
  • Willingness to learn safe and effective trapping techniques using non-toxic baits.
  • Comfortable removing pest species from traps.
  • Smartphone needed for recording trap activity.
  • Must be a Cambridge resident.
Time commitment:
  • Volunteers are scheduled every 3–4 weeks.
  • During your week, you’ll rebait traps with non-toxic bait (like peanut butter), remove any predator remains, and reset the traps at least once.
  • Each session takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
