Volunteer Role: KnowYourStuffNZ Drug-Testing Clinics
At KnowYourStuffNZ drug-testing clinics, our volunteers play a vital role in supporting our clients and promoting harm reduction. As a volunteer you will contribute you time by:

  • Welcoming clients and helping them feel at ease
  • Assisting with sample intake
  • Participating in sample analysis
  • Providing results alongside experienced volunteers
  • Engaging in harm reduction conversations

You’ll be warmly welcomed and supported throughout your volunteering journey by:

  • Your Regional Manager
  • Experienced volunteers
  • Our Volunteer & Training Coordinator

Requirements:
  • Awareness and understanding of the importance of drug harm reduction, with a genuine enthusiasm for supporting safer, healthier communities.
  • Comfort with having respectful, informative, empathetic conversations about drugs and harm reduction
  • An inclusive approach – we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, including people with lived experience of taking drugs, as we are part of the communities we serve
Time commitment:

Our onboarding training starts with two sessions:

  • Wednesday 1 October, 6–8pm (Zoom)
  • Tuesday 7 October, 6–8pm (Zoom)
  • Total: 4 hours

Clinic shifts:

  • Run 2–3 times a month in Hamilton and Raglan
  • Each shift lasts about 2–3 hours
  • A great opportunity to connect, learn, and put your training into practice

Flexibility:

  • Sign up for as many or as few clinic shifts that work for you
  • Every contribution is valued
  • The more shifts you volunteer for, the more experience and skills you’ll gain
