Emergency Management Office - Administration, IT & Creative content

We do most of our work in-between emergencies to prepare and be ready – there is lots to do, and we could use your help. This role focuses on our readiness activities during peacetime such as engaging with our communities, participating and supporting training and exercises, witing plans and policies, implementing response tools and processes, and not least taking photos, prepping social media content and writing Newsletters.

As a CDEM trained volunteer, you could help us out with activities that align with your interests and skills. Any number of hours would help, and you could come into our Hamilton office on a regular basis during office hours or work from home at the hours that suit you best.
NOTE: These activities will be by arrangement only, and we will inform you of any tasks that we need help with.

You will receive training in how to work within an emergency management office environment. The training is interesting and rewarding and will equip you with the knowledge to be effective in your role of supporting our readiness activities.
NOTE: Most training and events will happen at our Hamilton office location.

Requirements:

We are looking for reliable and trustworthy people who possesses personnel management skills, are 18 years of age or older and has a minimum standard of conversational English. Be prepared to participate in our free emergency management training.

To best suit this role, you would need:

  • An understanding of Government and Business procedures.
  • Office or admin experience.
  • Self-management.
  • Computing proficiency.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Creative flair (depending on task).
  • Structured & methodical.
  • Positive attitude.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • An initial two-hour Q&A information session after office hours to enable you to decide if this role is something you are interested in and to meet some of the staff you could be working and training with.
  • Successful applicants will then go on to complete a two-hour online foundational training
  • This is followed by a 2 day face-to-face Intermediate training course that would be available both during office hours and during the weekend as it best suits you.
  • Further events, exercises and training are available and recommended.

NOTE: Most training and events will happen at our Hamilton office location.
