Volunteer Facilitator – Loves-Me-Not Youth Programme in Waipā Schools
What If One Conversation Could Change Everything?
What if one student—just one—realised they deserve to feel safe, respected, and heard in their relationship…
Because you helped them see it?
This is the impact Loves-Me-Not is creating, and we’re looking for volunteer facilitators to help make it real.
Loves-Me-Not is more than a school programme.
- It’s a national movement, co-created by NZ Police and community partners, that helps young people (aged 15–17) explore what healthy relationships look like—and call out what isn’t.
- Together, we break down harmful social norms. We talk about consent, power and control, equality, and what it means to be an active bystander when something’s not right.
- We don’t lecture. We ask questions. We spark conversations. We listen.
Your Role as a Volunteer Facilitator
- You're not a teacher. You're not there to have all the answers.
- You’re there to hold space for hard, real conversations
- Encourage reflection, not compliance
- Challenge assumptions—gently but honestly
- Help young people find their voice, without speaking over them
You’ll work alongside Police, school staff, and social service professionals in a team that co-facilitates the sessions with Year 11–12 students across Waipā.
Does This Sound Like You?
- You care deeply about youth, equity, and social change
- You’re 20–45 ideally but if you're older and can relate well to teens we're more than happy to have you onboard
- You can stay grounded during sensitive topics
- You believe conversations can be a catalyst for real change
- You're ready to show up—not as an expert, but as a guide
You’ll Walk Away With
- A deeper understanding of youth perspectives
- Sharpened facilitation and communication skills
- Experience in community-based education and prevention work
- The quiet pride of knowing you helped shift someone’s story—even if they never say it out loud
Requirements:
Essential qualities:
- You’re a strong communicator who knows how to listen just as much as you speak
- You can build trust and connection—especially with young people
- You bring empathy, patience, and a calm presence to the room
- You can adapt in the moment, respond to what’s needed, and stay grounded under pressure
- You’re comfortable working in a team and can handle tension or conflict with care and respect
It’s a bonus if you also have:
- Experience working with youth or in a facilitation/teaching role
- A background in youth development, education, social work, or community work
- Cultural awareness and the ability to relate to young people from diverse backgrounds
- Any familiarity with Loves-Me-Not—but if not, we’ve got you covered
Note: Full training on the Loves-Me-Not programme is provided—what matters most is your willingness to learn and your commitment to showing up with care.
A Police background check is required for this role.
Time commitment:
Loves-Me-Not runs each year in Waipā secondary schools:
- Cambridge High School (CHS) – usually 4 days
- St Peter’s School – usually 3 days
- Te Awamutu College (TA College) – usually 2 days
- The number of days may vary slightly each year depending on student numbers
- Facilitators are needed from 8:30am to 3:00pm on each programme day
