Help Our Chickens Upgrade to First-Class Living!
Wondernauts is a not-for-profit community-focused early childhood educational facility based in the AgResearch - Ruakura campus which provides quality educational experiences that empower children to learn and grow through challenging and stimulating experiences.

We’re looking for a skilled volunteer to help design and build a walk-in chicken coop for our small, much-loved flock of chickens. You won’t be doing this alone – we’ll work with you on the design and support you every step of the way.

Why We Need Your Help:
We currently have a small, older coop, but we’d like to upgrade to something more spacious and practical. A walk-in coop will:

  • Give our chickens more room and comfort
  • Make it much easier for our teachers and children to clean and care for the chickens
  • Provide better access for collecting eggs.

What’s Involved:

  • Helping plan and design the new coop (with our guidance)
  • Constructing the coop on-site (some components could be prepared at home if preferred)
  • Using your know-how to make it safe, functional, and chicken-friendly.
  • All materials will be provided by us.

Our wish is to give our lovely chickens more space and most importantly to allow much easier cleaning and access for our wonderful teachers and children to take care of them and collect their eggs. If this sounds like something you'd be able to help us with, APPLY TODAY!

Requirements:
  • Someone with experience and knowledge in building a small structure that is safe and will last.
  • Someone who is able to work unsupervised.
Time commitment:
  • The timing of this project is flexible.
  • The design and planning can start anytime.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
