Cooking Class Assistant

Fairfield/Chartwell Community House (Te Whare o te Ata) runs fortnightly cooking classes offered to our community to help improve their confidence to cook nutritious meals for their whānau. We're looking for a friendly and reliable Cooking Class Assistant to support our regular tutor in running fun, hands-on cooking classes at the Centre.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Support the tutor fortnightly with her cooking classes.
  • Help set up ingredients, equipment, and recipe sheets before each session.
  • Offer friendly guidance to participants as they follow recipes.
  • Support with clearing up and kitchen hygiene.
  • Occasionally step in to lead the class using prepared materials when the tutor is unavailable.
  • Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and fun atmosphere for all skill levels.

Requirements:
  • Enjoy cooking and sharing your love of food with others.
  • Are comfortable helping in a group setting.
  • Like working with people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Organised, dependable and calm under pressure.
  • Have some cooking skills (professional experience not required).

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

• Once a fortnight on Fridays, from 10am-1pm (includes prep time and clean up)
