Volunteer Youth Mentor – Hope Rising Farm - Ngāruawāhia

Ngāruawāhia

We’re looking for compassionate and committed volunteers to mentor young people through hands-on, outdoor sessions at Hope Rising Farm. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of rangatahi, helping them build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills — often with the support of our gentle ponies.

As a volunteer mentor, you will:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people
  • Offer encouragement, a listening ear, and emotional support
  • Participate in and guide hands-on activities, including working alongside ponies
  • Help create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is empathetic, patient, and a great listener
  • Has a genuine interest in youth development
  • Enjoys the outdoors and being around animals
  • Can commit to regular sessions (times flexible depending on need)

This is a rewarding volunteer role where your time and presence can have a lasting impact. Training and ongoing support are provided — you won’t be doing it alone.

Requirements:
  • Confident around animals (especially horses/ponies)
  • Physically fit and happy working outdoors
  • Good communicator with mentoring experience
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Experience with horses is ideal but not essential – we’ll show you what to do.
  • Training provided – flexible commitment.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Programmes run each school term
  • Commitment of 3.5 hours per week for the duration of the term
  • Includes training in both youth mentoring and equine support

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
