Volunteer Pony Feeder – Casual Support - Ngāruawāhia

Ngāruawāhia

We’re looking for a reliable and animal-loving volunteer to assist with feeding our ponies on a casual basis — typically when our staff are away or need some extra support.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys being outdoors, doesn’t mind a bit of mucking in, and would love the chance to connect with animals in a calm, rural setting. You’ll be part of a small, passionate team supporting a local charity that’s making a real difference in the community.

Key tasks include:

  • Feeding and checking on the wellbeing of our ponies
  • Refilling water troughs and ensuring clean feeding areas
  • Light tidying around the paddocks or feeding zones as needed
  • Communicating any concerns or observations to staff

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is reliable, responsible, and comfortable around animals
  • Can follow instructions and work independently when needed
  • Is available on a flexible, casual basis (with notice)
  • Enjoys the outdoors and doesn’t mind getting a bit muddy!
  • Full guidance and support will be provided, and you’ll always have someone to contact if questions arise.

This is a meaningful way to give back, and support a local charity that’s making a real impact in the community.

Requirements:
  • Confident around animals (especially horses/ponies)
  • Physically fit and happy working outdoors
  • Available on short notice (flexible, casual basis)
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Experience with horses is ideal but not essential – we’ll show you what to do.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Casual basis — support needed when staff are away
  • Typically Fridays, weekends, and public holidays
  • Each visit takes approximately 2 hours
  • Flexible scheduling with advance notice
  • Ideal for someone who enjoys animals and the outdoors

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
