Help Secondary School Students Succeed!

In this role, you'll be providing one-on-one tutoring to secondary school students working on their NCEA-related homework and assignments. Your focus will be on helping students improve their skills in key subjects such as English, Math, and Science. You'll be supporting students from diverse backgrounds, including Congo, Somalia, Colombia, Afghanistan, Syria, and Pakistan.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide tutoring on Mondays and Fridays, focusing on subjects such as English, Math, and Science.
  • Work closely with students to boost engagement and academic performance.
  • Help reduce dropout rates by building student confidence and a love for learning.
  • Make a positive impact on the local community by supporting newly migrated students.

Requirements:
  • Proficient in the English language
  • Ability to help coach the students with their reading and writing
  • Must have lived in NZ for more than a year and have some understanding of the NZ high school system and NCEA
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural environment
  • Friendly, reliable and compassionate

Bonus:

  • Experience in ESOL education
  • A genuine interest in helping disadvantaged migrant and refugee background students to succeed

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Sessions are held on Mondays and Fridays at Wintec, from 3.15 till 5.30pm.
