Do You Enjoy Walking and Chatting? This Might be the Opportunity for You!
Blind Low Vision NZ is looking for a bright, chatty volunteer to support one of our members to accompany them on their regular walks and assisting with selecting books from our online library catalogue. This is an opportunity to provide friendly support for a person wanting to live an independent life out in the community.

About Our Member:

  • Young & sprightly, with an enjoyment for the outdoors.
  • Has vision and hearing loss but enjoys a great conversation and good company.

How You Can Help:

  • Support member on their regular walks.
  • Confidently lead a conversation with the vocal volume turned UP!
  • Support member to select books from our online library catalogue.
  • Check hearing aid batteries are all good.
Requirements:

- Bright, chatty personality - Confident with conversation and enjoys connecting with people.
- Great communicator - Able to give clear instruction to guide someone with vision and hearing loss
- Reliable and patient – Can provide consistent support while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Ideally, once per week or fortnight
  • Each session may range from 1 - 2 hours, depending on the activity
