Mate, we need you! Many older men in Hamilton are feeling isolated, and a good chat could make all the difference. Whether it’s talking sports, sharing stories, or just having a laugh, your time can have a real impact. Step up and make a mate’s day!

Not all heroes wear capes—sometimes, they just show up for a good yarn. Many older men in Hamilton are feeling isolated, and we need more male volunteers to change that.

As a visitor volunteer, you could:

  • Chat over a cuppa—talk rugby, classic cars, fishing, or whatever sparks a good conversation.
  • Do activities together—crosswords, card games, or even tinker in the shed.
  • Get out and about—grab a coffee, take a stroll, or check out a local event.
  • Share stories and laughs—because a little company can mean the world to someone.

It’s an easy way to give back, make real connections, and brighten someone’s day—yours included! If you’re keen to lend an ear and a bit of time, we’d love to have you on board.

Requirements:

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Friendly, trustworthy, and reliable—your company will be truly appreciated!
  • Great communicator—excellent spoken English and a love for chatting!
  • A passion for talking to older people and sharing stories
  • Good listener—you’ll make someone feel heard and valued
  • Must be over 18 to apply

A couple of things to note:

  • This role isn’t for work experience, so no references will be provided from the organisation or the older person.
    Your time is a priceless gift, and it’ll mean the world to someone!

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Just one hour a week, at a regular time that works for both you and your new friend—easy, flexible!
