Join Us for a Harvest Helpers Pruning Day
We’re on a mission to make free, locally grown fruit available to everyone in our community, and we’d love for you to be part of it. By joining one of our Harvest Helpers Pruning Days, you’ll not only learn new skills but also make a real difference.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to care for fruit trees, including the best times and techniques for pruning.
  • Practical, hands-on skills you can use to keep your own fruit trees healthy.

Why It Matters:

  • Together, we’ll work on fruit trees at the Western Community Centre and Pukete Neighbourhood House to keep them thriving for next season.
  • Healthy trees mean more fruit for everyone to enjoy—and you’ll be part of making that happen.
  • With your new skills, you’ll be able to care for your own trees and share any extra harvest with others.

How to Join:

This is more than just a working bee; it’s about growing food-secure communities and building a stronger connection with the environment. Michael Heiler, our experienced gardener and arborist, will lead the workshops and guide us through permaculture-inspired techniques.

We’d love to see you there. Together, we can ensure there’s plenty of fresh fruit for everyone, now and in the future.

Requirements:
  • No experience required – just a willingness to be outdoors and use hand pruners or tree clippers.
  • Passion for increasing access to free fruit in our communities.
  • Enjoys spending time outdoors and has an interest in gardening.
  • If you have loppers or secateurs, please bring them along.
Time commitment:
  • 10.30-12pm Saturday 8 February. Western Community Centre. 46 Hyde Ave, Nawton
  • 10-12pm Tuesday 18th February. Western Community Centre. 46 Hyde Ave, Nawton
  • 3.30-5pm Friday 28 February. Pukete Neighbourhood House. Church Road, Pukete
