Support a newly arrived Refugee Family

Meet new people, make connections and work as part of the team. You are assigned to work in a team of 2-3 volunteers led by a Case Manager. Volunteers help set up the house a couple of days before the family arrive.
On Arrival Day your team welcomes them to Hamilton and orientates them to the kitchen and explains important information about the house & property.
In the first few weeks, volunteers help with everyday tasks such as where to shop, showing them how to catch a bus, enrolling children in school, taking them to the doctor, etc. This is the busiest time, after which the time commitment decreases.

You need to attend two training sessions.
Evening Course
• Session 1: Monday 30th September, 6pm – 9pm
• Session 2: Monday 7th October, 6pm – 9pm
Or
Morning Course
• Session 1: Wednesday 2nd October, 9:15am – 12pm
• Session 2: Wednesday 9th October, 9:15am – 12pm

Requirements:

• Have passion for helping people
• An interest in supporting refugees to successfully settle in Hamilton
• Attend two training sessions, either daytime or evening
• Minimum 3-months ongoing commitment
• Police vetting

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Initially 3 months possibly extended if the family need further support
6-10 hours per week for the first few weeks, flexible hours
