General Maintenance and Gardening volunteer

The Cancer Society's Lions Lodge provides a relaxing and friendly environment for people to enjoy while undergoing cancer treatment. The Lodge lies in the heart of Hamilton and is close to the Waikato Regional Cancer Centre.

What You'll Do as a General Maintenance and Gardening volunteer:

  • Help our guests feel comfortable during their stay by carrying general maintenance and gardening jobs around the building.
  • Changing lightbulbs as required.
  • Maintaining outdoor furniture.
  • General gardening such as weeding and pruning.
  • Small paint jobs.
  • Tidying up the patio area.

As a volunteer with us, you will be part of a much-valued and supported team. You will also experience first hand the work of the Cancer Society in the Waikato and feel satisfied that you are making a valuable contribution to the community.

Requirements:
  • Must have a 'can-do' attitude and be able to carry out tasks confidentally and independently.
  • An ability to handle small but necessary repairs and maintenance of the building both inside and outside.
  • Be able to interact with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Organized and be able to respect the privacy of our guests.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:
  • Several hours, once a week, between Monday and Friday.
