Community Literacy Ambassador - Te Aroha/Paeroa

Te Aroha, Paeroa

Did you know that 35% of New Zealand teenagers are below the standard level of literacy? Struggling with reading and writing can deeply affect confidence, job prospects, finances, and overall wellbeing — but together, we can change that.

We’re looking for passionate Community Ambassadors to spread the word about our free literacy services and connect people in need with life-changing support.

As a Community Ambassador, you will:

  • Represent us in your local area
  • Raise awareness of free reading and writing help
  • Build relationships with local libraries, schools, businesses, community centres, and more
  • Distribute posters, flyers, and contact cards in community spaces
  • Attend local events, expos, volunteer fairs, or community meetings
  • Advocate for those struggling with literacy and help connect them to support

We believe 1 in 10 Kiwis struggles with literacy — your mission is to make sure they know we’re here to help.

What we offer you:

  • Flexible, community-based volunteering that fits your schedule
  • Initial training and a personalised local action plan
  • Ongoing support from our Community Coordinator
  • A network of Regional Ambassadors to connect with and share ideas
  • The chance to make a real difference in your community
  • We’ll ask for a quick monthly check-in so we can keep supporting you in your role.

If you’re passionate about your community, enjoy meeting people, and want to help change lives, we’d love to hear from you!

✅ Good communication and relationship-building skills
✅ Reliable and able to follow through on commitments
✅ Comfortable working independently and managing your own time
✅ Basic computer or smartphone skills (to send monthly updates)
✅ Familiarity with your local community and networks (a plus, but not required)

No prior experience is needed — we provide full training and ongoing support.

All you need is enthusiasm, empathy, and a willingness to help people find the support they need.
