Community Ambassador for South Waikato

Kihikihi, Kāwhia, Mangakino, Ōtorohanga, Piopio, Putaruru, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti

Would you like to help teenagers and adults in your local community who struggle with basic reading and writing skills? With 35% of New Zealand teenagers below the standard literacy level, your involvement could make a life-changing impact on their wellbeing, employment opportunities, finances, and self-esteem.

As a Local Ambassador, you'll play a vital role in raising awareness of our free services and connecting with those in need.

  • Promote our free reading and writing services by building relationships with local organizations, businesses, and community members.
  • Distribute materials such as posters, leaflets, and contact cards at libraries, community centers, workplaces, and events.
  • Represent us at community network meetings, expos, and volunteer events to advocate for our services.
  • Work to reach the 1 in 10 New Zealanders struggling with literacy and ensure they know help is available.

This flexible role requires fortnightly feedback to the Community Coordinator, keeping us informed about your efforts and insights. You'll also be part of a supportive community of Regional Ambassadors, sharing experiences and advice through our virtual volunteer network.

We’ll provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure you feel confident and empowered in your role.
Together, we can change lives and strengthen our community!

Requirements:
  • A sociable individual with excellent communication skills who enjoys engaging with others.

  • Passionate about supporting and making a difference in your local community.
  • Open to applicants aged 16 years and older.
