Volunteer Opportunity: Community Ambassador – Coromandel
Support Literacy, Change Lives with the Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust (RYALT)

Who We Are – RYALT:
The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust (RYALT) is a New Zealand-based charity that provides free one-on-one literacy coaching to rural and isolated adults and teenagers who didn’t gain reading and writing skills at school.
Our trained volunteer coaches work remotely, supporting students via Zoom, Google Meet, or phone to help them improve their spelling, writing, and reading—skills that change lives.

Why Literacy Matters:
Did you know that 35% of teenagers in New Zealand are below the standard level of literacy? This affects their wellbeing, job prospects, finances, and self-esteem.
At RYALT, we offer free literacy services—and you can help ensure more people in your community know where to find support.

Your Role as a Community Ambassador:
As a local representative of RYALT, you’ll help raise awareness of our services by connecting with people and organisations in your area.

You'll be:

  • Attending community meetings and events on our behalf
  • Building relationships with local businesses and groups
  • Advocating for those who struggle with literacy

Who You’ll Reach:
1 in 10 New Zealanders struggles with literacy. Your mission is to make sure they know RYALT is here to help—for free.
