Hato Hone St John have a team of volunteers who assist in hospitals and care homes with patients and their families, being a source of companionship, care and support. We are looking for people who have an aptitude for working with a diversity of cultures that will bring passion to this crucial function within the Hato Hone St John Hospitals and Community Carer service. We offer full training and support required for you to enjoy and be fully prepared for this role.
The care offered by our volunteers may be reading to or playing games with a patient, assisting with making drinks or helping at meal times. Taking a patient outside in a wheelchair to get fresh air and a different outlook. Giving a family member some time to themselves. All of these things are so important for all of the whanau.

No prior experience is required. However, there are certain things that are needed to be considered to be successful in these roles:
A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.
We ask volunteers to commit to a four-hour shift once a week or fortnightly. The shifts vary between hospitals and care facilities. In addition, due to the nature of these roles, we are only able to consider volunteers who are able to commit for a minimum of 12 months.
