The Meteor Theatre is operated by the One Victoria Trust, which exists to foster, develop, and encourage all forms of creative and performing art, in a way that benefits the community. Our vision is to enhance the arts in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton and Aotearoa, New Zealand by providing a vibrant and thriving venue for theatre, music, dance, poetry, exhibitions, workshops, comedy, improv…and much, much more.

Located within The Meteor whare, the Nancy Caiger Gallery is a light-filled exhibition space that showcases works from both established and emerging artists from around the Waikato. It's open Wednesday - Saturday, 11am-2pm. The volunteer Gallery Assistants play an important role in providing manaakitanga to visitors of the Gallery and helping connect them to the kaupapa of the artist/s and exhibitions on display.

The main responsibilities of the role are: manaakitanga/ customer service, minding the exhibition space, assisting with general health & safety and fire evacuation if required, light administration duties, and, general housekeeping.

If you're successful in joining our volunteer group, we will provide an induction to The Meteor, ongoing information and training about the exhibitions on display and the shows coming up; and, for every ten shifts you work, we will gift you a free double pass to an upcoming show hosted at The Meteor. By working as a volunteer, you will gain valuable customer service experience within a Gallery environment and you will help us keep our doors open from 11am-2pm, every Wednesday - Saturday.

Requirements:

Customer service experience is advantageous. We're also looking for people who have good communication skills, who are punctual and have good time keeping skills as well as an interest in the community and the creative arts.

Time commitment:

11am-2pm on your rostered day, working an average of 2-4 shifts per month, depending on your availability. The Nancy Caiger Gallery is open 11am-2pm, Wednesday – Saturday.
