Career Navigator Mentor

We have an opportunity for you to fill your cup, tautoko our kaupapa, and join us as Career Navigator Mentor!

Career Navigator is a ready-for-work programme that is designed to help secondary school students to find a meaningful education or career pathway upon leaving school. It has been running successfully in the Waikato region since 2017 and will be offered at Fairfield College, Ngaruawahia High School, and Huntly College in 2026.

We need employers, business owners, entrepreneurs, graduates, and professionals to join us as Career Navigator Mentors this year.

What you need to know:
Career Navigator Mentoring is offered to Year 12 and 13 students and takes place in school terms 1 - 3. You will be signing up for a 6-7 month commitment and will be meeting with your students on a fortnightly basis during school hours. Mentors will provide expertise to support the development of a group of young people through goal setting, workplace visits, and FUN!

Tell me more:

  • The ratio is no higher than one mentor to 2/3 students.
  • There will be fun and interactive social events and workshops offered to mentor and students throughout the year.
  • Full training is provided, and you will receive ongoing support and resources from our Career Navigator Programme Coordinator throughout
    the year.
Requirements:

You don't need to be a CEO or top level manager to mentor- we are looking for people from all walks of life, who have been on all types of journeys to get to where you are. Sharing experiences and building connections with the rangatahi will help them to see they have the potential to do great things!

You will require a Police vet for volunteer work involving children or vulnerable people. We will need your permission to submit a vetting request to us on your behalf, the results of which will be returned directly to us.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

1-2 hours per fortnight from February - October 2026.
Training will be held at the end of January (date to be confirmed)
