Doing Girly Stuff

Hamilton

Do you enjoy getting out, to go shopping r to browse the markets, visiting cafes or catching the latest movie or dance show? Or maybe just going for short walks and having a great chit chat at the same time? Why not do something you enjoy, but take a friend with an intellectual disability along to do it with you. We will introduce you to one person, just simply be her friend. We match up people with similar interests, whether it is sports, nature, art and craft or lots of girly stuff.

This role is very flexible so it fits in well if you work or already have a busy life. Do what you normally like to do in your spare time, and include someone else who likes doing similar things and who would love to have a friend like you. It is about having fun, getting out and about and helping your friend to have a great friendship experience. You will have the opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life, develop a unique friendship and to give back to the community in a rewarding way. While it is mostly about you and your friend meeting up and doing things together, there will be also opportunities to meet and connect with other friendships on the programme at regular events throughout the year.

Applicants do not need to have experience with intellectual disability, as all volunteers are given an orientation and training, with ongoing support, as needed. There is also additional optional training on-line and in person for those who are interested.
