Friendly Visitor

Turangi, Tokoroa, Taupō

Volunteer visitors provide companionship to an older person, who may be feeling lonely and/or socially isolated in the Taupō, Turangi and Tokoroa areas.

You will be matched with an older person and we ask that volunteers visit for about an hour once a week. Befriending and visiting an older person on a regular basis can make a real difference to their health and happiness and our volunteers get a lot out of the experience too. Ongoing support and education is provided by the Age Concern Coordinator, with the opportunity to meet with other volunteers at support meetings. Petrol vouchers provided every December.

Requirements:

Warm, friendly and to be able to enjoy the company of an older person.
Respectful of confidentiality and of other cultures.
Able to give an hour a week on a regular basis.
Good listening skills and empathy with older people.

After submitting your interest in this role, Age Concern will be notified. The Age Concern Co-ordinator works part-time hours but will be in touch, via email in the first instance, as soon as is practicable in her working week. We are closed between 22nd December - 9th January. Feel free to apply for this role during that time and we'll get back to you once the office reopens.

A Police background check is required for this role.

About an hour once a week.
