Visitor for older people

Turangi, Mangakino, Tokoroa, Taupō

The role is to provide friendship and support to an older person who lives alone, who could be lonely and socially isolated in the Taupō, Turangi, Mangakino and Tokoroa areas.

You will be matched with an older person who you will visit weekly for a chat. Befriending and visiting an older person on a regular basis, makes a real difference to the health and happiness of an older person. Learning about the clients history and sharing experiences. Ongoing support and education from the Age Concern Coordinator. The opportunity to meet with other volunteers at support meetings. Petrol vouchers provided every December.

Requirements:

Warm, friendly and to be able to enjoy the company of an older person. Respectful of confidentiality and of other cultures. Able to give an hour a week on a regular basis. Good listening skills, and empathy with older people.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Just an hour or two each week or fortnight.
