Age Concern Hauraki-Coromandel is a Charity that has a focus on addressing loneliness and social isolation in older adults. Loneliness is when you have less connection with others than you would like. It’s different to solitude, which is being alone but feeling content with that. Solitude is a positive state, whereas loneliness is an unhappy state that can lead to feelings of worthlessness, insignificance, insecurity or abandonment. If not addressed loneliness can lead to deteriorating health and isolation. The good news is, we are here to help and we can do this in several ways such as our Volunteer Visiting Service, Chinwag Café, Steady As You Go groups, Driver Refresher courses, Total Mobility and Digital Connections. Our area covers the Thames-Coromandel and Hauraki regions and volunteers are our valued and valuable workforce. ‘Together we can make a difference to an older persons life’.
Help to provide a weekly visit, or phone call, to an older person who feels isolated and lonely. We have older persons in our communities waiting for an enthusiastic volunteer visitor to spend an hour a week with them to provide company and connection.
Age Concern Hauraki Coromandel is looking for volunteers to lead and support our social connection groups (Weekly older person social get togethers for friendship and conversation-Chinwag groups) held throughout Hauraki Coromandel
