Te Paki O Matariki – Celebrating Kiingitanga.
Acknowledging Kiingitanga and its unique role in Aotearoa
Tino Rangatiratanga – A Maaori led Matariki Festival
Events are led by Maaori and supported by the Trust
Whanaungatanga - Celebrating Communities
Providing opportunities for all communities to connect, contribute and participate
Kotahitanga – Inclusive of all peoples
Sharing a Maaori world with other to enrich our communities.
WHAAINGA/PURPOSE
Our purpose of Te Ohu Whakaita is to advance education and increase public's awareness and appreciation of Maaori culture in the Waikato Region, with particular emphasis on Matariki and similarly significant cultural and heritage taonga.
In particular the Trust will:
• Foster, develop and promote Maaori Cultural events
• Emphasise the Cultural significance of Matariki
• Connect people to their heritage
• Highlight the depth and richness of Maaori Culture in the Waikato region
• Provide unique learning experiences to whaanau, visitors and the wider community
• Make Maaori culture event accessible to all
• Provide other support and assistance consistent with charitable purpose.
