Go Eco Carpark Gardener

Go Eco

Go Eco (Waikato Environment Centre) is the Waikato's largest environment hub; we are a voice for the environment, a centre for learning and a catalyst for change. We provide community education, collaborate with and support regional environmental groups, explore the impact of colonisation on the environment, and operate a Bike Hub and Food Rescue Service.

The Go Eco Carpark Garden brings people together, and demonstrates how to grow kai in small spaces. The garden is set up to be low maintenance but there are certain jobs that need done regularly to be both productive and compost more food waste. This includes looking after two established worm farms. We'd love it if the volunteer would also be happy to collect food waste from local cafes and green grocers - and have a cargo-bike (or trolley) to enable this. Only light weeding is required in the garden, with watering in spring and summer. A volunteer who is keen to experiment and grow vegetables in unusual spaces would be ideal as other tasks might include planting seedlings or seeds, harvesting vegetables, keeping the garden free of rubbish and watching things grow.

An interest in learning a permaculture, biodiversity or climate approach to gardening ideal.
Good communicator, to explain and share what we're doing in the garden with others.
Willingness to collect food from local businesses.
Some lifting and physical work may be required.
