Special Needs Youth Music & Dance Workshop Volunteer

Do you have one evening free a week between Monday - Thursday (between the school term)? Do you enjoy music and dance? Do you like spending time with young people in a fun environment? Starjam workshops will be the perfect place for you.

StarJam is a charitable organization that runs free music and dance workshops for young people with special needs. The workshops are run by a tutor, between 6.15 - 8 pm, once a week between the school term (Mon - Thursday).

The role of a workshop volunteer is to help facilitate the worskhop. As a volunteer you will be helping the tutor and the Jammers (young people) as they work on their performance pieces. The role includes helping to set up the room, engaging with the young people, helping with games, and making everyone feel comfortable. The most important thing is to have fun!

Applicant must be aged 17 or over. You will gain experience working with young people within a performance environment and experience working with different disabilities and a wide age group.

This is a very rewarding and enjoyable way to pay it forward. Watching our young people grown and develop their skills & confidence despite the many challenges they face is absolutely amazing. It's a special kind of magic that has the be witnessed to be believed! And we need your help to make this happen.

Requirements:

It is not essential for applicants to have previous experience of spending time or working with people with a disability, however you need to be empathetic to the Jammers needs.
Music/Dance skills are helpful but not essential as long as you are enthusiastic & reliable
Applicants must be 17 or over.
Willing to try new things and have loads of fun.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Workshops are run from 6:30 to 8pm once a week during the school term. Volunteers/tutor arrive at 6.15 pm
We also have a disco once a term on Friday evening, an end of year concert & a volunteers summit (once a year)
