Endometriosis is a condition that effects not just women, but can involve their families as well. The main focus of Insight Endometriosis is to raise awareness of this disease and the treatments/regimes that can assist women to cope, and to support and empower these women when they seek out help and treatment.

We are seeking a Support Group Coordinator (SGC) to facilitate a monthly coffee group/support group for women with Endometriosis. These can be organised monthly from February to November at a time to fit in with personal commitments. Maintaining relationships between meetings is also important which can be by Facebook, emails, etc.

Please note that we are currently looking for volunteers that are internet savvy and eager to coordinate support groups online due to Covid 19. Full support and training can be provided online and over the telephone.

Personal experience with Endometriosis is not required for the role. May suit students looking for group facilitation experience.

Requirements:

The role involves:

  • co-ordinating a monthly support group for women with endometriosis, at a time and day which suits the volunteer
  • booking places to meet (e.g. cafes) and/or arranging guest speakers
  • advising Support Group Co-ordinator Team Leader of meeting dates
  • contacting women to encourage them to attend
  • meet and greet women
  • facilitating meetings to encourage sharing of experiences
  • referring women to our Educator if needed
  • reporting back to the Support Group Co-ordinator Team Leader after each meeting
    Initial training provided about running a support group as well as key information about endometriosis.

There are ongoing opportunities for professional development at our support group co-ordinator training sessions held approx 4 times a year in Hamilton.

Time commitment:

The successful applicant can expect to spend up to 5 hours a month with organising and running the support group.
