ESOL Home Tutor Volunteer - Cambridge, Otorohanga, Te Awamutu, Matamata

Become a volunteer home tutor with English Language Partners and visit your learner in their home weekly to deliver a one-to-one lesson. The lessons will help learners to gain the language skills and confidence to integrate and participate in Kiwi life and culture. Lesson duration is 1.5 - 2.0 hours per week.
Gain new skills and confidence, make new friends and learn cross-cultural communication skills, expand your knowledge of other cultures and experience for yourself how volunteers are really making a difference in the lives of new New Zealanders. You can also use these skills to assist in one of our rural classes as a volunteer tutor supporting the teacher.
An NZQA approved certificate is awarded after completing course requirements.

Requirements:

Skills: Confident use of both written and oral English. No previous teaching experience required. Willingness to share the language and culture of NZ.

Personality: An open mind. Interested in people. A desire to learn more about other cultures and a willingness to share your expertise and skills. Culturally sensitive and accepting of diverse opinions, views and backgrounds. Friendly, flexible and willing to take initiative.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Introductory training: 2 day training course (consecutive). 2 half day training sessions 2-3 weeks after initial training. Completion of 4 assignments including 12 practical sessions of one-to-one teaching with a learner. A minimum of 80% attendance at training is required.
2019 dates for initial 2 day training (follow-up half days confirmed at initial training days):
May 2 and 3
June 4 and 5
August 8 and 9
October 3 and 4
