The volunteer will be leading a sewing class each week for a group of 8- 10 women (Classes During the school terms- there will not be classes during school holidays).
Sewing machines, over-lockers and others sewing resources are provided.
This is a free and easily accessible life skill support for ethnic women to help them learn sewing and to promote cultural sharing and relationships.
The sewing tutor will be supported by at least another back-up volunteer.
At least 4 months commitment .
Experience in sewing machine and overlocker use, mending of clothing, and use of patterns for making new clothing items.
Ability to cater for individual differences in both abilities and personal experiences.
Experience in assisting and/or teaching small groups is desired.
Verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate cross-culturally and relate to a broad range of people with varying English language levels.
Reliability and flexibility and be able to maintain a positive, optimistic and non -judgmental attitude .
Tuesdays 10 am till 12 noon - minimum of 4 months commitment .
