Prison Literacy Tutor

Meremere, Te Awamutu, Te Kauwhata

This organisation runs a volunteer based literacy programme in prisons.
It has been shown that if a prisoner improves their literacy they are less likely to reoffend when they return to the community.
We are looking for people to work with students in Springhill Corrections Facility and Waikeria Prison. The programme requires a commitment of at least twelve weeks, two hours a week. Volunteers work one-on-one with a student who requires literacy or ESOL support. All tutors have found this a very rewarding experience.

Requirements:

Previous teaching or tutoring experience with children or adults is preferred but not required.This position requires people with patience.
You must have transport to be able to drive to Springhill or Waikeria as neither facility is serviced by bus.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Two hours per week for at least 12 weeks.
