This organisation runs a volunteer based literacy programme in prisons.
It has been shown that if a prisoner improves their literacy they are less likely to reoffend when they return to the community.
We are looking for people to work with students in Springhill Corrections Facility and Waikeria Prison. The programme requires a commitment of at least twelve weeks, two hours a week. Volunteers work one-on-one with a student who requires literacy or ESOL support. All tutors have found this a very rewarding experience.
By participating in this volunteering opportunity you are helping achieve the following United Nations Sustainability Goals ;
Goal 3 - Good health and well being
Goal 4 - Quality education
Goal 10 - Reduced inequalities
Previous teaching or tutoring experience with children or adults is preferred but not required.This position requires people with patience.
You must have transport to be able to drive to Springhill or Waikeria as neither facility is serviced by bus.
