Our vision is for Whaingaroa to be a healthy, resilient and environmentally sustainable community. We provide environmental education, advocacy and information and run projects supporting our vision. The Whaingaroa Environment Centre is an information, resource and action hub, supporting environmental sustainability for our people and our natural heritage Our mission is to engage and empower people to take action for environmental sustainability. Based in the Town Hall in Raglans main street, we operate a visitors Centre to engage with the community and manage our programmes and services. The purpose of the centre is to be an information, resource and action hub, supporting environmental education and sustainability. WEC promotes environmentally sustainable practices and collaborates with local organisations to facilitate the exchange of information to achieve real outcomes in our community. We increase awareness of sustainability issues and solutions with a monthly Enviromatters page in the Raglan Chronicle, via displays in centre, through our local community radio station and online (website and social media). Key projects that deliver the WEC vision include Maui Dolphin Conservation, Backyard Bounty, Plastic Bag Free Raglan and Timebank Raglan.
