New Zealand Red Cross - Refugee Programmes

Each year, Hamilton welcomes approximately 150 refugees for resettlement. NZ Red Cross is the primary agency helping them to settle and adjust within their new communities. Our vision isrefugees achieving their potential and contributing within an inclusive society. Our volunteer programme is at the heart of the range of practical support services to assist refugees with the many challenges of adjusting to life in a new culture and society. We ask for a 3-6 month commitment, however there are also short term volunteering opportunities available. Before supporting refugee families to resettle our community volunteers take part in training course designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed. Providing this support work is a rewarding opportunity to work cross-culturally. Our volunteer teams are the cornerstone of successful resettlement, providing practical assistance and heartfelt support towards independence.
