Requirements for Registration

  1. Any non-profit, charitable organisation, or group offering volunteer placement can register as a member with Volunteering Waikato provided that these groups have reasonable volunteer programme policies, or are actively working towards creating and implementing these policies
  2. Social enterprises or other entities/ groups / joint ventures can apply for membership provided that the majority of their profit or surplus is reinvested in a mission that is social, cultural or environmental
  3. Volunteering Waikato may register for-profit entities / businesses that seek to recruit volunteers, provided that there is clear community or environmental benefit, that there are suitable roles for volunteers, benefit to volunteers, and that the role/s cannot be done by paid staff for valid reasons (eg not feasible).
  4. Volunteering Waikato will only accept membership from organisations that have a current health and safety policy and plan. All referred volunteers must be orientated to the organisation and their roles – this must include a health and safety induction
  5. Organisations with multiple branches or projects in separate locations need to register each individual branch or project individually
  6. Member organisations are expected to provide all volunteers with job descriptions, training, supervision, support, recognition and the reimbursement of agreed out-of-pocket expenses
  7. Organisations not conforming to legislation on human rights will not qualify for membership
  8. Volunteers will be referred to organisations to supplement, extend or reinforce services. Volunteers must not take the place of paid staff or fill positions for which funding is available or was a paid position within the previous six (6) months
  9. Volunteering Waikato reserves the right to decline membership to, or to remove or suspend membership of, organisations that do not meet the above criteria.

Membership fees (non-profit)

  • $60 - annual income under $50,000
  • $100 - annual income $50,000 - $199,999
  • $160 - annual income greater than $200,000 (single branch)
  • $200 - organisations with 2-4 registered branches or subsidiaries (registered with Volunteering Waikato)
  • $250 - organisations with 5-7 registered branches or subsidiaries (registered with Volunteering Waikato)
  • $300 - organisations with 8 or more registered branches or subsidiaries (registered with Volunteering Waikato)

Membership fees (for-profit)

  • $160 for a one-off event
  • $300 membership for groups running more than one event in our region during a 12-month period
  • $300 for a for-profit wanting to recruit volunteers
